Edition #6 is a design object created on commission for the Vienna Design Week to celebrate its 20th anniversary.
Stucco ornamentation is a defining element of Vienna’s historic identity and an integral part of the city’s architectural face. At the beginning of the last century, the city—influenced by figures such as Adolf Loos and his manifesto "Ornament and Crime"—rightfully reinvented itself, gradually moving away from ornamentation. The focus shifted toward efficient use of resources and a democratic, utilitarian philosophy that continues to shape modern architecture and design to this day. Yet, time has also revealed an enduring desire for symbolism in design. The rejection of ornament served as the antithesis to the era of Historicism and decoration used solely for display, devoid of any "useful" function. Edition #6 is a synthesis of this historic dichotomy. Beyond its symbolic form, it serves a dual purpose: as a wall console and as a bookend.
The object was designed during the exceptionally hot, dry summer of 2026 and manufactured in our own workshop using exclusively solar energy.
The material—regional ash wood—transfers this traditional facade element into a contemporary, sustainable, and domestic context. Thus, Edition #6 embodies the city’s transformation: a process of embracing the past, adapting it, and constantly reinventing itself.
